Land can be part of your long-term wealth-building plan, whether you want a future homesite, room to grow or an asset to hold. It isn't a promise of profit: consider the full cost, your goals and the risks before buying.
Buildable lots here often cost a fraction of what a similar lot costs in Sarasota, Naples or Palm Beach County.
Some owners let you pay a down payment and monthly installments instead of the full price upfront. Availability, rates and terms depend on the owner and parcel. Understand owner financing before you commit.

Mobile homes are typically not allowed in R1-A, so always confirm the exact zoning and permitted uses with Highlands County Development Services before you buy.

Low-lying parcels near lakes and the Fisheating Creek and Lake Istokpoga basins deserve a closer look.
Many lots outside the Town of Lake Placid utility area rely on a private well and septic system. Septic permits are issued through the Florida Department of Health in Highlands County and usually require a soil evaluation. Budget roughly several thousand dollars each for a well and septic, and ask whether central water or sewer is available at the road.
